President and CEO, National Arts Centre,

ABOUT THE NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE

Canada is our stage. Those four words inform everything we do as a catalyst for performance, creation and learning across the country. We are proud to be a home for many of Canada’s most exciting artists, who captivate audiences on our four stages. We strive to be artistically adventurous in each of our programming streams. We provide artistic and financial support to Canadian creators, helping them create highly ambitious new work in theatre, dance and music for national and international audiences. We partner with our country’s most innovative arts organizations, from Victoria B.C., to Igloolik, Nunavut, to St. John’s Newfoundland, and many, many places in between. And we work with children and young people across the country, fostering young audiences with innovative programs, and nurturing the artists of tomorrow through artist training. The NAC is the only bilingual, multidisciplinary performing arts centre in Canada, and one of the largest in the world.

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT AND CEO OPPORTUNITY

This is an enviable opportunity to lead an organization that plays a central role in the cultural life of Canada’s capital city, that has dramatically increased its national role, and that has become an increasing source of pride for Canadians. Benefiting from what is arguably the strongest artistic team in North America, the new President and CEO will provide the vision and leadership to guide the organization into its next phase of growth. This individual will drive the development of new initiatives that support the NAC’s mandate, both on its four stages in the Nation’s Capital, and in the performing arts across Canada. This includes the Centre’s bold new emphasis on supporting the creation of ambitious new Canadian work in theatre, dance and music.

The President and CEO will work collaboratively with the Board of Trustees and Senior Management to develop a strategic direction for the Centre. They will be responsible for all aspects of management. This includes shaping an NAC culture that is creatively and externally focused, innovative and entrepreneurial; managing a challenging multi-disciplinary creative organization; and operating in the English, French and Indigenous cultural milieu.

The President and CEO oversees all NAC programs. The incumbent will attract and retain world-class artistic leadership in all of the NAC’s programming streams – Music (the National Arts Centre Orchestra), English Theatre, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, Dance, NAC Presents, and Variety and Community Programming, and ensure the NAC is a national leader in arts education. They will provide strong and stable financial management, and initiate partnerships with arts organizations, educators and funders both nationally and internationally. The President and CEO will actively engage government officials, corporate sponsors and philanthropists in promoting the NAC’s artistic vision and national activities to increase base funding and earned revenues. The ideal candidate will be bilingual.

As an employer who values diversity in its workforce, we encourage candidates to self-identify as members of the following designated groups: women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities.
