Appointment Provisions
The Board shall consist of seventeen members as follows:
A member appointed by the GiC holds office during pleasure for a period not exceeding five years as may be fixed by the GiC and is eligible for reappointment.
The GiC shall designate one of the members to be the Chairman of the Board.
- the Librarian and Archivist of Canada;
- an officer of the Canadian Museum of Civilization designated by the member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada who is designated by the Governor in Council pursuant to the Museums Act as the Minister responsible for the Canadian Museum of Civilization;
- an officer of the Department of the Environment designated by the Minister of Environment; and
- two representatives for each of Ontario and Quebec, one representative for each of the other provinces, and one representative for each of Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut to be appointed by the Governor in Council.

Remuneration

Members who are public servants serve without remuneration.
